Jeremy and I attempted to take pictures of Jane with the boys the first few days.  It was crazy and much harder than I thought it would be!  But we did get some cute ones.

 

Introducing Jane Ivy Knudsen

Wow I am a little overwhelmed with how much I haven’t blogged about over the last four months! I do try really hard to keep this as updated as possible because I use it as a family journal of sorts.  Some day I will get around to getting it printed into books.  The biggest reason for my blog absence is of course because we added a new little member to our family.  Here is a little birth story of sorts:

Jane Ivy Knudsen was born on July 19th at 12:05pm via emergency c-section.  She weighed 8 lbs 5 oz, was 19 1/2 inches long as is just an angel.  When I was admitted to the hospital on the morning of the 19th to be induced, I was already a 2.  I got admitted fairly quickly, started on pitocin, was having regular contractions, the doctor broke my water, I got my epideral…. everything was going perfectly.  After about four hours of contracting, the nurse came in to check me.  I was already an 8 so I thought we were on the home stretch and that this little lady would be delivered soon.  Wrong.  When the nurse went to check me, she could feel Jane’s hand, arm, and possibly the cord.  Jane had flipped into the transverse position.  The nurse ran out to grab a few more nurses to double check that they were feeling the same thing.  They all confirmed that it was indeed her hand and arm.  Just then my doctor walked in.  What a blessing and a relief.  She had just popped in to check on me during her lunch break.  She had the nurse run and get the ultrasound machine to confirm that Jane had flipped positions and was no longer deliverable.  I couldn’t even believe it.  My entire pregnancy she had been head down and now she decides to flip?!!  My doctor couldn’t believe it either.  She said she had only ever seen it happen one other time in the 20 years she had been practicing medicine.  All of a sudden I was being rushed in for a csection.  Nurses were buzzing all around the room quickly getting me ready.  I started to cry and lose it a little.  I just couldn’t believe what was happening.  I was shaking pretty uncontrollably and was a mess.  All of a sudden I just felt a wave of calmness sweep over me.  I knew that everything would be alright and that I was being watched over.  I also knew that it was a tender mercy that my doctor had literally been walking into my room to check on me as everything was unfolding.  A few minutes later, Jane Ivy Knudsen made her grand entrance.  Such a girl thing to do… wanting to make an entrance.  Her Dad and brothers adore her to pieces, it is absolutely precious to watch.  I will never forget that night when the boys came to meet her for the first time.  Max kept telling me “Mom!  I’m so excited you pushed the baby out!”  (for the record we never told him a thing about PUSHING, still have no idea where he learned that from).  But he just kept giving me big hugs and telling me how happy he was.  He was so excited to hold her.  Kyler just kept giggling over all her small features.  Saying things like, “Look at her little hands/nose/mouth/ears/toes”.  He didn’t want to hold her, just kept giving her kisses.   He mostly just wanted to snuggle me.  I loved it so much.  It was like he missed me and just needed his Mommy.  So much love in that little hospital room with just my sweet family.  Oh baby Jane… words cannot adequately describe the love I feel for this sweet little girl.  I feel so blessed to be her mother and I still can’t believe she is mine.  I’m pretty sure for the first 3 days of her life I would just hold her and cry while promising her that we are going to best friends.  I know we will be.  We love you sweet baby Jane!
